The Alabama-Mississippi Sociological Association (A-MSA) invites submissions for student led research papers for consideration in the Annual A-MSA Undergraduate and Graduate Student Paper Competition. This opportunity is available to all A-MSA student members, or to those who become members of A-MSA. Papers will be reviewed and evaluated by a panel of scholars from the sociology discipline led by the Student Competition Chair. The paper that reflects the most original work that demonstrates substantial contributions to the field of sociology will be selected for an award. The Undergraduate and Graduate Student author of the selected papers will be announced at the reception following the final day of the A-MSA conference. The monetary award for winning the Undergraduate Student paper competition is $100. The monetary award for winning the Graduate Student paper competition is $200.

Rules for the Award Process:

All student led papers must include original work and may not include faculty members as co-authors. Additionally, the paper must not have been submitted for publication prior to consideration for this award. To receive full consideration of this award, student must meet all deadlines and present their research at the annual conference in the Undergraduate and Graduate student competition panel sessions. The full paper (including the abstract) and cover letter should be emailed to the A-MSA Student Papers Competition Chair.

Deadline for Abstract and Cover Letter indicating interests: January 4, 2019

At this time, students should submit an abstract and a cover letter indicating their interest and intention to submit a full paper for the competitions (that will be due January 25). The cover letter should include the following: title, author(s), school affiliation, first author telephone number, and first author email address.

• A 150-word abstract in ASA style formatting
• A Cover Letter stating the project title and overview of the work to be covered in the future paper submission should be provided along with the abstract.

Deadline for Full Paper: February 1, 2019

• The paper should include a title page and the title should also be repeated at the second page of text
• 25-page limit (not counting abstract, references, tables or figures), double spaced, ASA style formatting.
